English At Large

Welcome New Member, English At Large

English At Large (EAL), is a nonprofit that provides individual and small group instruction through a volunteer network to adult immigrants and other newcomers who want to acquire English language skills as they adapt to life in the United States.  Our One-to-One Tutoring Program, Conversation Groups, Career Access Lab (CAL) and Beginner English Classes serve more than 500 newcomers from 60 different countries each year.

EAL provides services in 21 Greater Boston communities in Middlesex County:  Acton, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Billerica, Boxborough, Burlington, Carlisle, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Medford, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Waltham, Wilmington, Winchester, and Woburn.

Through instruction tailored to the needs and experiences of our learners, our vision is that newcomers will develop the English language skills and acquire the cultural knowledge needed to fully engage in their communities and fulfill their life goals.

We are always looking to connect with local business professionals interested in serving as program volunteers and mentors to our learners, many of whom hold advanced degrees from their home countries and seek employment in the United States.
